Nerve Entrapment & Sciatic Relief

When nerves are compressed or become entrapped, the accompanying pain or weakness may become unbearable. More specifically, when the pain radiates from your lower back spreading down each leg, this is classified as sciatica. Understanding that poor posture is a bad habit many of us share, not to mention as much as 40% of us Americans will at one point in our lives experience some sciatic pain, we comprehend the importance of taking swift approaches when it comes to assessing any symptoms.

Our team of chiropractic experts can relieve your nerve pain through holistic approaches and techniques within a matter of weeks through spinal manipulation, referred physical therapy, and prescribed medication if the severity of your sciatic symptoms exacerbates to severe levels.

What Is Sciatica?

The sciatic nerve originates in the lumbosacral spine (lower back), travels through the hamstring area, and finally culminates down each foot. Actual injury to this nerve is rare, and most patients are likely experiencing entrapment, compression, pinching, inflammation, or otherwise irritation of the sciatic nerve instead.

What Causes Sciatica?

Sciatica can be caused by a range of other medical diseases and conditions such as:

  • Slipped or herniated disc
  • Lumbar degenerative disc disease
  • Piriformis syndrome
  • Spondylolisthesis
  • Spinal stenosis
  • Osteoarthritis

Treating Sciatica

The interventional pain management centers offer physical medicine services in chiropractic care, massage therapy for flexibility, and physical therapy exercises, among many other treatments. When these standard treatments don’t relieve your acute pain, epidural steroid injections or other medication may be prescribed. Only when the pain is unbearable and burdensome to the point where it prohibits simple daily tasks is surgery considered an option.

Luckily, surgical procedures on the sciatic nerve are rarely needed because the pain generally comes from irritation, not from the sciatic nerve itself.

Common Symptoms of Sciatica

Signs and symptoms of sciatic nerve entrapment include:

  • Lower spine, leg, or foot weakness or numbness
  • Mobility loss or pain that worsens with movement
  • Tingling, aching sensation
  • Loss of bowel movements or bladder control
  • Persistent pins-and-needles feeling on your toes or feet
